McDermott was noted for successful representation of a global software company and three major oil companies in litigation challenging District of Columbia tax assessments made using software from consulting firm Chainbridge Software LLC. In the latter litigation the District of Columbia Court of Appeals has remanded the oil company cases for further consideration.
