Joanne Ludovici said that “the timing couldn’t be worse, especially from brand-owners perspectives” for the Department of Commerce announcement that it was giving oversight of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to the Internet “community.” A lot can go wrong in this process, Ms. Ludovici added, especially because many of the countries that have been pressing for this kind of change do not have strong track records of honoring or protecting intellectual property rights.
