June 16, 2017 – McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that partner Amandeep Sidhu has been recognized by the Washington Business Journal in its 2017 “40 Under 40 List.” The list highlights 40 of the region’s top business professionals under the age of 40, and the honorees are selected for having “displayed business excellence while maintaining a commitment to the community.”
Mr. Sidhu was recognized for his experience working on complex commercial disputes, particularly with regards to regulated industries, including health care-related investigations and litigation. In his work, Mr. Sidhu represents hospitals and health care companies in investigations and defense of qui tam whistleblower litigation involving federal False Claims Act (FCA), Stark Laws and Anti-Kickback Statue in federal district courts throughout the United States.
Mr. Sidhu was also acknowledged for his pro bono efforts on behalf of the Sikh Coalition and Sikh Americans throughout the country. As a co-founder of the Sikh Coalition, the largest Sikh advocacy organization in the US, Mr. Sidhu brought the organization on as a pro bono client in 2007. Working with a diverse team of McDermott litigators and lobbyists, Mr. Sidhu has helped Sikh Americans obtain religious accommodations from the US Army, which permitted them to serve while maintaining their articles of faith.
On January 3, 2017, after years of steady advocacy, the Army issued an updated policy that streamlines the religious accommodation approval process and requires the Army to grant accommodations for sincerely held religious beliefs, including unshorn hair and turbans, unless a “concrete hazard” is identified. With this success in hand, Mr. Sidhu and team are now moving on to the next chapter—convincing the entire DoD to enact similar policies.
Mr. Sidhu actively serves as a long-time member of McDermott’s Pro Bono & Community Service Committee, as well as the Racial and Ethnic Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
