Anthony Upshaw Highlighted in Diversity & the Bar’s Top 10 Rainmakers List

Overview

April 20, 2017 – McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that partner Anthony Upshaw has been recognized by Diversity & The Bar as one of its Top 10 Rainmakers for 2017. The annual Rainmakers List highlights ten attorneys of color who serve as leaders in the legal industry.

By using a traditional approach towards new-business generation, Mr. Upshaw consistently secures new clients and business for the firm. In his Rainmaker profile published by Diversity & the Bar, Mr. Upshaw notes, “Personal contact works even in today’s world of electronic interaction. Young and ‘senior’ in-house lawyers appreciate getting to know me personally. Grabbing coffee, having lunch, meeting in person – these same basic tools that I use in personal life to connect with people also translate to success in my professional life.”

In 2016, Mr. Upshaw demonstrated his tremendous talent in the courtroom by obtaining two successful jury verdicts on behalf of longtime client, Monsanto Company. In both instances, Mr. Upshaw was able to successfully advocate on behalf of his client, clearing them of all liability.

Mr. Upshaw’s work in one of those trial victories, Dauber v. Monsanto, was recently recognized with multiple accolades, including its listing as a Top Defense Verdict in California for 2016 by the Daily Journal, as well as its selection as the second overall product liability defense verdict of 2016 by Courtroom View Network (CVN). Additionally, Mr. Upshaw was recently inducted into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, an honor reserved for those only at the top of the profession.

Beyond his impressive legal practice, Mr. Upshaw has been recognized throughout his career for his pro bono work and civic engagement, as well as his exceptional work as co-chair of McDermott’s Racial & Ethnic Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
