Boston Bomb Suspect’s Hope May Be With ‘Liberal’ Jurors

Overview

Mark Pearlstein, as a former federal prosecutor, said that jury selection in the trial of accused Boston Marathon bomber Tsarnaev will be more important than usual, since the questions used to ferret out bias will be scrutinized in any appeal of a conviction or sentence. Mr. Pearlstein noted that although “even [in] very high-profile cases, the extent to which jurors are aware of the details of a case is sometimes quite shockingly low, this case may well be the exception to that.” He predicted Tsarnev’s lawyers may seek “very liberal” jurors with concerns about the death penalty that prosecutors want.
