Captive Owners Urged to Scrutinize Data to Improve Risk Management Programs

Thomas Jones cited increased scrutiny on captive insurers by regulators not familiar with how captives operate, saying that “in the captive world, we pride ourselves on lighter regulation, so it puts a burden on us to demonstrate that lighter regulation is appropriate.” He suggested that the industry should undertake a major effort to educate such regulators on “what captives do and why they are not harmful.”
