Cato Institute Panel Discusses Obscure but Pivotal Gay Civil Rights Case

Overview

Lisa Linsky was a panelist at a Cato Institute event concerning One Inc. v. Olesen, a landmark 1958 U.S. Supreme Court decision for legal rights of LGBT Americans. Ms. Linsky presented a number of memoranda from FBI files that showed how deeply the federal government was prejudiced against such individuals in the past, and discussed McDermott’s pro bono work with the Mattachine Society of Washington to unearth documents related to One Inc. and other issues involving gay rights, calling that effort a “testament to history itself,” because it is “giving voice to individuals who couldn’t stand up for themselves.”
