Paul Devinsky assessed a licensing settlement between a major technology networking company and a non-practicing entity, calling it a “rational” business decision because what the company “would have to spend to continue to defend its customers and users was likely far in excess of the settlement amount.” Mr. Devinksy added that the company’s call for patent law reform to eliminate the need for such settlements was a “promo in favor” of a bill in Congress which “would force patent owners to seek relief against manufacturers rather than third-party customers or users who are easy pickings for NPEs.” Read the full article
