McDermott was among the law firms representing Citgo Petroleum Corp. in an agreement with the commonwealth of Pennsylvania to dismiss its insurance claims against the oil refiner for allegedly polluting groundwater with the gasoline additive methyl tertiary-butyl ether. The case is part of a large multidistrict litigation involving a number of other oil companies.
