Andrea Kramer, drawing on her book about Breaking Through Bias in the workplace, said that “the stereotype is that women are emotional and men are not,” and explained how it applies to law firms: “If a woman is seen as too weak and too nice, a firm may question why to give her an important project or put her on a big case. And if she’s too strong, she’s seen as untrustworthy, unlikeable and only out for herself. It’s the Goldilocks dilemma. For women, they are too hard or too soft, but rarely just right.”
