Compensation for Employed MDs Who Lost Money Led to Hospital’s $69M Settlement

Tony Maida said a $69 million false claims settlement by nine physicians employed by a Florida hospital district shows the Justice Department “is aggressively pursuing physician employment under the Stark law.” In this light, Mr. Maida advised provider organizations that “documenting what went into making the compensation decisions is critical to explaining it to the government later — and assume that you will need to explain at some point.”
