Lisa Schmitz Mazur said that federal officials should be giving doctors more authority to use telemedicine to prescribe controlled substances, particularly in view of President Trump’s intent to declare a national emergency on opioid abuse. Although some states allow such telemedicine use, Ms. Mazur said federal law is “creating an environment where healthcare providers are not wanting to [prescribe] at all. It has become too complicated.”
