Stephen Kranz and Diann Smith have favorably represented oil industry taxpayers in three District of Columbia transfer pricing suits, appeals of which are delaying four other similar suits where the two McDermott lawyers represent the taxpayers. One of their prior cases, Microsoft Corp. Inc. v. Office of Tax and Revenue, is instrumental in all their cases, as it questioned the validity of audit methods used by a third-party contractor. Mr. Kranz and Ms. Smith have argued that the methods and determinations of the contractor are faulty.
