Despite Drop In New Patent Suits, Attys Hard At Work

Paul Devinsky said that, despite statistics showing a drop in the number of new patent lawsuits filed in 2014, in his practice the volume of work “really feels about normal, about right. Everyone is fully engaged and occupied, as far as I can see.” Citing patent reforms to restrict the large number of lawsuits filed by non-practicing entities, Mr. Devinsky noted that such companies “don’t support the kind of litigation that competitor suits support. We deal with some nuisance suits as a service to clients, but we tend to mostly handle cases that go further and are harder fought.”
