March 20, 2017 – McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Diann Smith has received the 2017 Award of Merit from the Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization (UPPO). Ms. Smith was recognized for her efforts on behalf of the National Retail Federation and the comments she provided to the Drafting Committee of the Uniform Law Commission (ULC) for its Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act (RUUPA).
Ms. Smith serves as the co-chair for an UPPO group where she provides legislative comments to states that introduce RUUPA bills and is responsible for drafting white papers on the top UPPO priorities related to RUUPA. Furthermore, when a state introduces a RUUPA bill, Diann’s group drafts comments to that bill based on these white papers and also on a review of the existing unclaimed property legislation in that state.
UPPO is the leading community and resource for unclaimed property compliance education, networking, advocacy and reform. During the meeting, Diann also presented at several sessions including “Preparing to Win in Court.”
