Jeffrey Stone, McDermott co-chair, said that in today’s tough legal market “well-run or intelligent firms will actually do better in an environment in which quality rises to the top.” Mr. Stone noted that for large law firms “change is difficult. But I don’t think there’s any other choice. When the world is changing around you, you adapt or you die. The truly successful firms will be the ones who understand those challenges, integrate them into their business model and execute with vigor on those changes.” He added that the key to McDermott’s success is “to lead with integrity … If you don’t have that, you don’t have anything.
