Todd Harrison predicted that if the US Supreme Court overturns the corruption conviction of former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell, it could give former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, also convicted of corruption, “a decent or strong basis on which to appeal because the facts, as I understand them, were basically similar to McDonnell.” Mr. Harrison added that “a Supreme Court reversal of the McDonnell conviction would probably make any corrupt state politician breathe a little easier, maybe a lot easier, but that remains to be seen.”
