Mark Pearlstein, who entered a guilty plea on behalf of a hedge fund executive accused of fraud that was uncovered by investigators probing Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, said that under the type of plea agreement used, the judge must accept or reject the entire deal when imposing the sentence and cannot make changes. It is customary for judges to wait to make decisions on accepting such deals, Mr. Pearlstein added.
