Lisa Schmitz Mazur warned that emergency physicians face more liability exposure if they feel pressured to meet promises that patients will receive attention quickly, creating a situation where more serious patients receive less attention so that care is delivered to other patients within the wait-time guarantee period. While wait-time guarantees have “many potential benefits, there seem to be just as many potential risks if this practice is not implemented in a careful and thoughtful way,” Ms. Mazur said.
