Marc Sorini said of lobbying tactics by the country’s alcohol beverage retail chain that “it’s not unusual for a large company to use its legal and government affairs resources to change the status quo so its business model gets accommodated,” allowing them “to take advantage of their scale.” Mr. Sorini doubted that such actions hurt small retailers. “Walmart doesn’t put every small retailer out of business when it comes to town,” he said, “but it sure makes them sharpen their competitive edge.”
