Former US Representative Jim Moran Joins McDermott’s Government Strategies Practice Group

Overview

WASHINGTON DC (January 28, 2015) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced that former United States Representative James P. “Jim” Moran has joined the Firm’s DC office. After serving twenty-four years in Congress, Mr. Moran will join McDermott’s Government Strategies group as Senior Legislative Advisor. In this role, he will bolster the Firm’s lobbying practice in such specialty areas as defense, government contracting, trade, foreign governments, and technology.

Mr. Moran is a former U.S. Representative who served Virginia’s 8th congressional district from 1991 to 2015. During his time in Congress, Mr. Moran was a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and served as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Interior and Environment. Mr. Moran was also a senior member on the Defense, Military Construction, and Legislative Branch Subcommittees, helping to establish his excellent reputation within the defense and government contracting community. Throughout his years of service, Mr. Moran became known for his ability to work across the aisle, gaining great respect from members of both parties.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jim Moran to the Firm,” said Jeffrey E. Stone, Co-Chair of McDermott Will & Emery. “McDermott is relentlessly committed to finding new and innovative solutions for our clients, and Jim, who is known for his ability to resolve complex issues, will be a perfect complement to the Firm’s mission.”

“The Firm will benefit greatly from having Jim on board,” said Steve Ryan, partner and head of McDermott’s Government Strategies practice group. “As one of the most prominent and well-respected former members of Congress, Jim’s great reputation and deep knowledge will boost our capabilities and give our clients powerful new insights into the Executive Branch agencies, Congress, and the government contracting community.”

In 1997, Mr. Moran co-founded the New Democratic Coalition, which was established to represent the pro-business sector of the Democratic caucus. Mr. Moran went on to establish himself as a champion of the local business community in Northern Virginia’s “Dulles Technology Corridor” and beyond. Mr. Moran’s business contacts coupled with his political experience will prove very valuable to the core mission of McDermott’s Government Strategies practice group.
