Hospitals Face Steep Cuts Even if Republicans Have Alternative to Subsidies

Overview

H. Guy Collier said that if the Supreme Court rules in King v. Burwell that health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act should be cut, any effort by Congress to extend the subsidies would just be a short-term fix. “At some point, you’re not going to have these patients in the system anymore. The problem is still there,” Mr. Collier noted, adding that hospitals will need to convince Congress not only to extend the subsidies, but also to “look at the extent of the cuts. Otherwise the math doesn’t work.”
