Overview

Stephen Kranz and Diann Smith addressed the troubling expansion of state laws that make vendors without physical state presence collect sales tax. Mr. Kranz called the laws “a variety of self-help approaches that will lead to litigation. All of these … represent the states declaring that if Congress won’t act, we will.” Ms. Smith added about the laws that “the primary reason that they’re troubling is because it creates so much uncertainty for the vendors and other stakeholders that are participating in the system. And that’s the frustration level.”
