In America’s Past, a Culture of Animus Against Federal Workers

Lisa Linsky co-led McDermott’s pro bono team that, on behalf of the Mattachine Society of Washington, DC, prepared what has been called “the animus amicus” – an amicus brief for the Supreme Court cases on the constitutionality of same-sex marriage, documenting the government’s long persecution of gay and lesbian civil service employees. Ms. Linsky said the brief showed the “historical backdrop that this culture of animus developed and permeated every institution in American life. This is the basis, the context, the foundation of the marriage bans that are before the Supreme Court.” Read the full article
