Inconsistency Between States Complicates Reporting of Federal Tax Changes, Experts Say

Alysse McLoughlin told a Georgetown University panel that reporting inconsistencies make it hard to determine when a taxpayer is required to report federal changes to the states, in part because different events trigger the reporting requirement in each state and states have different filing deadlines.
