Jean Pawlow told a Tax Executives Institute conference that broad information document requests sent to taxpayers by the IRS in tax audits mean “there still seems to be a reluctance for agents to reveal their cards too soon. But we want the IRS to tell us specifically what they’re looking for. If they wait to surprise us, it will drag the process out.” Ms. Pawlow added that if IRS agents were “more proactive” in giving the goals of the audit, it would save time and money.
