IRS Mixed Straddle Final Rules Pose Headache For Insurers


William Pomierski said that new IRS regulations restricting the use of mixed straddle investment transactions pose a serious question about the roles Congress and the Treasury Department play in updating tax law, even though investors have had nearly a year to prepare for the rules. Although insurers will be negatively impacted the most, Mr. Pomierski added that he “would reject assertions that the only folks using this transaction were insurers. There are a lot of investor types who have used mixed straddles over the years.”
