Mary Kay Martire said that an Illinois law which allows whistleblower lawsuits over charging and collecting sales taxes gives the state “quite a black eye in the minds of our clients. It’s just abusive. … It’s like highway robbery.” Ms. Martire, who has defended against 60 of such suits, added that legislative reform to eliminate them would make “a significant improvement” for business in the state.
