Joel Chefitz was mentioned as representing defendants who sought to keep religious paintings on display in an Illinois park. In 1992 the full U.S. Court of Appeals ruled the paintings were protected by the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and religion, and thus could not be barred from the park.
