Joel Chefitz criticized as “schizophrenic” the logic of the Ninth Circuit majority’s opinion which held the NCAA’s rules against paying student athletes violate antitrust laws. Mr. Chefitz said that while the opinion acknowledges “that not paying student-athletes is precisely what makes them amateurs … the court ignores its own admission by stating that amateurism rules need to serve a procompetitive goal other than amateurism.”
