A McDermott pro bono team is working on a white paper about the Mattachine Society’s research into LGBTQ patients at St. Elizabeths Hospital for the Insane, a federally operated psychiatric facility. “It was something out of a horror movie,” Lisa Linsky said. “Coma-inducing shock treatments, lobotomies, solitary confinement. . . . This was done in a culture of animus—created by the federal government—that made it OK to treat gay people in this way.”
