Overview

WASHINGTON, D.C. AND CHICAGO (June 2, 2015) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery today announced that two leading intellectual property litigation lawyers, Jay H. Reiziss and Charles M. McMahon, have joined the Firm as partners in its Washington, D.C. and Chicago offices, respectively. This new team will add strength to the Firm’s U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) practice while broadening McDermott’s reach in Asia.

Prior to joining McDermott, Mssrs. Reiziss and McMahon worked together at a boutique intellectual property law firm where they focused their practice on IP litigation, with an emphasis on disputes before the ITC and the Chinese telecommunications market. In bringing Mr. Reiziss and Mr. McMahon on board, McDermott continues to strengthen its deep bench of experienced trial lawyers for both District Court and ITC cases.

“Jay and Charlie will be a terrific complement to our existing IP practice,” said Sarah Chapin Columbia, partner and head of McDermott’s global Intellectual Property Litigation practice. “Their experience before the ITC and relationships with Chinese companies will bolster the Firm’s ability to meet the needs of clients both in the U.S. and Asian markets. We are thrilled to welcome them aboard.”

Mr. Reiziss is known for his skill in the international trade arena with in-depth experience dealing with Section 337 investigations involving patents, trademarks and trade secrets in the areas of biotechnology, chemistry, computer hardware and software, and mechanical devices. Mr. Reiziss spent 12 years working inside the U.S. International Trade Commission, gaining experience in all three major departments of the Commission. He received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.

Mr. McMahon is known for litigating Section 337 cases extensively in the USITC, as well as patent disputes in various U.S. federal courts and before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He has significant experience handling IP matters in a wide variety of technologies, including software applications, wireless communications, and digital imaging systems. Mr. McMahon received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.

With more than 155 lawyers and patent agents around the world, McDermott’s Intellectual Property practice is renowned for its broad trial, appellate, prosecution and transaction experience. Members of the practice hold degrees in a wide variety of technical fields and are uniquely capable of handling intellectual property matters in virtually every technical or scientific discipline.
