McDermott Appoints David S. Rosenbloom to Lead Global Litigation Practice Group

Overview

CHICAGO (March 1, 2017) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery has appointed partner David S. Rosenbloom as the global head of its Litigation Practice Group, effective immediately. His colleague, partner Steven S. Scholes, will serve as Operations Partner for the Litigation Practice Group. Together, they will lead the group as McDermott continues to deliver superior client service in high-stakes controversies and complex litigation. As dedicated practitioners, they will also maintain their practices and continue to serve clients.

Mr. Rosenbloom has almost 20 years of experience at McDermott defending corporate and individual clients in civil and criminal investigations and trials. He has served as lead defense counsel in complex commercial litigation, qui tam litigation, and criminal health care fraud and antitrust trials, has conducted internal investigations in a variety of areas, including FCPA, and advises clients regarding health care fraud and abuse compliance. Before joining McDermott, Mr. Rosenbloom served as the deputy chief of the General Crimes Division in the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.

“David continually sets an extraordinary example—from delivering client excellence to mentoring colleagues and being an industry thought leader,” said Firm Chair, Ira J. Coleman. “He brings great energy, insight and passion into all that he does and we are incredibly excited for him to take on this role.”

Mr. Rosenbloom’s strengths will be complemented by those of Practice Group Operations Partner, Steven S. Scholes, who will manage the day-to-day business operations of the Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Scholes’ practice covers all varieties of securities and other complex commercial litigation. He has tried civil, criminal and administrative cases in federal and state courts, and regularly represents clients before the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), state securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations, such as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and stock, options and futures exchanges. In addition, he has held leadership roles in the past as the partner-in-charge of the Chicago Trial Department and leader of the Firm’s SEC Defense Group. A former attorney in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, Mr. Scholes has been appointed by three different federal judges in Chicago to serve as receiver in SEC civil enforcement proceedings.

“In his 30 years at the Firm, Steve has earned the trust and confidence of his colleagues and clients for his good judgment, his creative trial skills, and, above all, his unflappable grace under pressure,” said Mr. Coleman. “Together, he and David will strengthen and grow the group to become ever more indispensable to clients.”
