McDermott Appoints Todd Solomon to Lead Employee Benefits Practice

Overview

CHICAGO (July 14, 2017) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is delighted to announce that partner Todd A. Solomon is the new global leader of the Firm’s Employee Benefits practice. Mr. Solomon will lead McDermott’s robust Employee Benefits team by building on the group’s premier reputation of delivering superior client service, and ensuring that McDermott’s lawyers serve as trusted, indispensable partners in all employee benefits matters. As a dedicated practitioner, Mr. Solomon will also maintain his practice and continue to serve clients.

Mr. Solomon has been at McDermott for almost 20 years and most recently served as the Employee Benefits Practice Group Leader in Chicago. He focuses his practice on designing, amending and administrating defined benefit pension, profit sharing, 401(k), employee stock ownership and 403(b) plans, as well as nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements. He counsels privately and publicly held corporations and tax-exempt entities regarding fiduciary issues under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), plan investment matters, employee benefits issues involved in corporate transactions, executive compensation matters and the implementation of benefit programs for domestic partners of employees. Mr. Solomon is also Chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee and is a member of McDermott’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

“Todd leads by example and sets a high bar in everything he does: delivering client excellence, being an industry thought leader, leading the Firm’s Pro Bono initiative, and mentoring colleagues,” said Firm Chair, Ira J. Coleman. “Our Employee Benefits team has long been recognized as one of the best, and with Todd’s outstanding leadership and our deep bench of extraordinary attorneys, we look forward to bringing ever-greater results to our clients.”

Mr. Solomon will be supported by a leadership team of seasoned employee benefits lawyers from various McDermott offices. The team will consist of: Steven Eckhaus in New York; Andrew Liazos in Boston; Diane Morgenthaler in Chicago; and Erin Turley in Dallas. All will maintain their full-time practices while working together to extend McDermott’s client excellence in Employee Benefits.

McDermott has recently bolstered the firm’s strength in the employment arena by welcoming a number of talented lawyers to the group, including preeminent litigator, Kerry Scanlon, in Washington, DC, as head of McDermott’s US Labor & Employment Litigation practice. Mr. Scanlon was joined by his colleague, Jeremy White, and together they brought over 40 years of combined employment litigation experience to McDermott. McDermott’s labor and employment practice also welcomed Steven Eckhaus and Evan Belosa to the New York office as preeminent figures in US executive compensation and employment law. Mr. Eckhaus formed and led the executive compensation practice at his previous firm and he immediately took the helm as the leader of McDermott’s Employee Benefits, Compensation, Labor & Employment Practice Group in the New York office. In addition, in 2015, McDermott’s Dallas office welcomed the talented team of Erin Turley and Allison Wilkerson, who are both nationally known as authorities in advising large publicly traded clients on all areas of ERISA and employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs).
