McDermott Bolsters Corporate & Transactional Capabilities in Germany with Strategic Partner Hire

Overview

Frankfurt (January 6, 2017) – International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce it has welcomed Dr. Michael Cziesla as partner in its thriving Corporate & Transactional Practice Group in Germany

Dr. Cziesla joins from King & Wood Mallesons where he was a senior partner and member of that Firm’s management team in Germany. Dr. Cziesla also brings with his team senior associate Norman Wasse, who joins McDermott as a counsel.

He advises on complex private equity and corporate transactions, specializing in cross border mergers, secondaries, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures and restructurings. Dr. Cziesla notes: “I am excited about contributing my experience in private equity and M&A to McDermott. Because of the firm’s commitment to continued growth nationally and internationally, and its strong focus on quality, McDermott is the ideal platform for my clients and my team.”

“We are very excited to welcome Michael to the team,” said Harris C. Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice Group. “Over the last year, we have strengthened our corporate presence in key financial centers across the globe, particularly in the areas of cross-border M&A and private equity. I believe Michael is an excellent fit for McDermott as he focuses his practice on advising private equity clients and multinational corporations looking to invest into the German “Mittelstand” – which is consistent with the Firm’s focus in this area. His appointment is yet another step in the strategic growth of our transactions capabilities worldwide.”

Norbert Schulte, partner in charge of McDermott’s German practice added: “With over 15 years of private M&A experience, Michael is a valuable addition to our German and international Corporate & Transactional practice. He is a widely respected corporate lawyer who is well known for being ‘a safe pair of hands’ and a creative deal lawyer. I am confident that his appointment will help us capitalize on new opportunities in Germany and internationally.”

McDermott’s Corporate & Transactional Practice represents business interests around the world, from global corporations and industry-leading companies to privately funded and entrepreneurial driven enterprises, private equity sponsors and the financial institutions that support them. McDermott consistently ranks in the leading league tables, including Mergermarket, Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg and PitchBook. The Corporate & Transactional Practice Group was named “Team of the Year” for Middle Market M&A/Buyouts by The Legal 500 and is highly ranked by Chambers in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

In recent months, McDermott has significantly expanded its Corporate & Transactional capabilities with the addition of several notable laterals, including Alicia Videon, Hamid Yunis, Piero Carbone and Michael Holter in the Firm’s London office.

McDermott’s German offices will continue their growth while also promoting internal candidates. As of 2017, Thomas Beisken of the Düsseldorf real estate team has been promoted to partner and Dr. Claus Färber of the Munich TMT team was promoted to counsel. German-trained French resident Diana Hund, who holds a French-German law diploma and leads the German Desk in Paris, was promoted partner in the Paris office.
