McDermott Expands Delaware-based Restructuring and Insolvency Strengths Bolstering Client Access in One of the Nation’s Top Bankruptcy Courts

Overview

McDermott Will & Emery, a leading international law firm, announced that David Hurst has joined the Firm’s Restructuring and Insolvency practice as partner based in Wilmington.

“Delaware is home to one of the busiest bankruptcy courts in the nation. When our clients are involved in a Delaware bankruptcy proceeding—whether as the debtor or as an asset purchaser, secured or unsecured creditor, or formal or informal committee—they will benefit from having a lawyer with David’s experience and local knowledge,” said Tim Walsh, co-chair of the Restructuring and Insolvency group and a New York-based partner.

David is the most recent addition to McDermott’s growing insolvency and restructuring practice. This past fall the Firm added Felicia Perlman and Brad Giordano in Chicago and Jeffery Reisner in Los Angeles. The strength of our group globally ideally positions us to help clients capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risk in what is expected to be an increasingly uncertain economy.

“All of these outstanding lawyers are recognized leaders in the restructuring world who are focused on providing their clients with innovative and creative solutions to their most complex legal challenges,” added Tim.

David’s clients include private and public companies in traditional chapter 11 cases, “prepackaged” bankruptcies, and out-of-court restructurings. On the debtor side, he has represented hedge funds as well as clients in the pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, manufacturing, healthcare and retail industries. He has also served as counsel to liquidating trusts, directors and boards of directors, secured and unsecured creditors, creditor committees, bankruptcy trustees, plan administrators and asset purchasers.

Chambers USA describes David as being “bright and creative … very smart, very detail-oriented, [and] easy to work with” and as having “superb judgment.”

David earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and his JD from Harvard Law School.

David joins McDermott from Cole Scotz, P.C.
