M. Todd Welty, formerly US. head of tax controversy and litigation for a major global law firm, and partners Mark Thomas and Laura Gavioli from that same firm have joined McDermott’s tax controversy practice and Dallas office, bringing with them years of experience tackling high-stakes international and national tax controversy and litigation matters and strengthening the Firm as one of the few go-to tax groups for bet-the-company tax controversies. Mr. Welty called McDermott a “phenomenal, strong firm” with one of the largest tax controversy practices in the country. “When you marry our tax controversy experience — really more on the litigation end — with the existing McDermott practice, this really is a special combination,” Mr. Welty said.
