McDermott Offers Comprehensive Review of Business & Employment Law Updates in the Wake of Covid-19

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery released its “COVID-19 Global Guide for Business” special report, a comprehensive review of business and employment law updates in light of COVID-19. The report incorporates important updates from more than 35 countries across Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, the Asia Pacific and North America.

“Our clients are working around the clock to effectively respond to unforeseen challenges posed by COVID-19 and our global network allow us to provide them with the tools and resources necessary to navigate today’s new and complex employment and business law landscape,” said Brian Cousin, leader of McDermott’s International Employment Practice and New York-based partner. “Although all nations are fighting a common enemy in COVID-19, governmental responses to the outbreak have differed significantly based on various factors including local laws, culture and politics, and the degree of severity of the outbreak in each country.”

The guide serves as a detailed resource for multinational businesses, in house counsel, C-level executives, and human resources professionals. Developed in close partnership with our Global Law Firm Network, the Global Guide features answers from local lawyers in each country to important business and employment questions. Sample questions include:

  • Has your country enacted any special labor or employment measures to deal with COVID-19?
  • Is your country providing any type of economic relief or support for employers and/or employees during this health crisis?
  • Can employers furlough employees during this COVID-19 health crisis?
  • Are employees obligated to disclose to their employer if they have tested positive for COVID-19?
  • How does the principle of force majeure apply under the applicable contract laws of your country?
  • What remedies are available to businesses in the event they default on contractual obligations?
  • Are there any small-business protections available in your country and can local subsidiaries of foreign entities access them?
  • Has your country issued any tax amnesty or relief programs because of COVID-19?
