McDermott Partner Andrea Kramer Named Among Womenetics’ 2015 Chicago POW! Awards Honorees

Overview

CHICAGO (January 13, 2015) – McDermott partner Andrea Kramer has been named a 2015 Chicago POW! award honoree by Womenetics, an Atlanta-based company that aims to accelerate women’s success and opportunities.

Ms. Kramer is one of 10 women to receive the honor this year. She is recognized for her work to advance substantive change for women in business and society through her leadership at McDermott and her service to the broader Chicago community.

As the founding chair of McDermott’s Gender Diversity Committee, Ms. Kramer plays an integral role in developing policies and initiatives to ensure the value of a diverse firm. This includes formalizing the Firm’s commitment to acceptance of gender differences, as it relates to the hiring, promotion and retention of the most talented lawyers, regardless of gender.

Since 2009, Womenetics has presented the POW! awards to recognize extraordinary female leaders who have attained a high level of transformative success in business, academia or nonprofit. They work to serve as change agents in the community, respected for significant contributions locally and globally.

“On behalf of the entire firm, I’d like to congratulate Andie on this extraordinary and well-deserved achievement,” said Lydia R.B. Kelley, partner and chair of McDermott’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. “Andie’s dedication to her work, and the broader community is unrivaled, and her commitment to the pursuit of equality and justice on all fronts, is truly remarkable.”

Ms. Kramer’s leadership echoes throughout the Chicago community, where she is recognized as a pioneer in the advancement of opportunities for women. In 2005, Ms. Kramer co-founded the Board of the Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Alliance to bring professional women together to mentor and support leadership opportunities for professional women, a board she continues to chair. She is also Chair of the Board of the Chicago Foundation for Women, one of the largest women’s funds in the world, and a founding member and chair emerita of the board of The Women’s Treatment Center (TWTC), a Chicago-based residential and outpatient treatment facility for alcohol and substance abuse. In 2012 she was awarded the ABA Business Law Section’s National Public Service Award in recognition of her significant and sustained pro bono commitment and legal counsel to TWTC.

The Chicago POW! Awards luncheon will take place on March 25, 2015 at The Metropolitan Club. The public is invited to network with and support these women of action and purpose by attending the event.
