Overview

BOSTON (October 7, 2015) – McDermott Will & Emery health law partner Monica Neuman was recognized by The Boston Business Journal as one of this year’s distinguished “40 Under 40” at an event on October 1, 2015 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Boston honoring “the next wave of talent and commitment in the Boston economy.”

Each year, The Boston Business Journal selects an “array of up-and-comers, businessmen and businesswomen who exemplify the talent and civic spirit that helps drive our local economy.”

These young leaders are recognized for their contributions in “shaping their industries” in Boston. “In aggregate, they symbolize the potential of Greater Boston,” the editors write, noting that they receive more than 400 nominations of accomplished young professionals from numerous industries across the city.

“We are enormously proud of Monica, and congratulate her on this well-deserved and very prestigious honor,” said Tony Bongiorno, partner-in-charge of McDermott’s Boston office. “Monica exemplifies the best in our profession. She has earned the respect of health care clients across the industry through her commitment and dedication to achieving their objectives. Additionally, we are all inspired by Monica’s tremendous pro bono leadership and commitment to both the legal and Hispanic communities.”

“Monica is an extremely talented young lawyer who has worked enormously hard to help our health care clients meet the challenges of an industry undergoing historic change,” said Stephen Bernstein, head of McDermott’s Health Industry Advisory Practice Group and a partner in the Boston office. “Monica is a rising star who will continue to distinguish herself in the health care industry.”

Ms. Neuman focuses her practice on complex transactions and regulatory compliance matters affecting companies and institutions in the health care industry. She represents a wide range of clients, including tax-exempt hospitals and health systems, academic medical centers, physician group practices, medical device and pharmaceutical companies, as well as a variety of other health care organizations.

With her pro bono efforts focused on advocating on behalf of children with special education needs, Ms. Neuman also serves on the Boston Children’s Hospital Trust Latino Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors of Silver Lining Mentoring, the only mentoring organization in Massachusetts focusing exclusively on the unique needs of youth in foster care.

For her many professional accomplishments, Ms. Neuman has received numerous honors in recent years, including being recognized by Chambers USA as an “Up and Coming Healthcare Attorney” in 2013 and 2014, and as a Band 3-ranked attorney (a move-up) in 2015. She has also been recognized as a one of the “Top Lawyers under 40” by the Hispanic National Bar Association. Ms. Neuman was a recipient of the American Health Lawyers Association Pro Bono Champion Award for 2012, 2013 and 2014, and of the John Edward Smith Child Advocacy Award in 2002. She was previously featured by The Boston Business Journal as an Emerging Leader “at the forefront” of evolving health care law.
