Overview

CHICAGO (April 23, 2014) — McDermott Will & Emery partner and gender diversity leader Andrea Kramer was recently honored as “Gender Diversity Private Practice Lawyer of the Year” at the Chambers USA Women in Law Awards in New York. Presented annually, the Women in Law Awards recognize the most outstanding performances by female lawyers who are committed to furthering the advancement of women in the law.

“On behalf of the Firm, we congratulate Andie on this terrific and greatly deserved recognition,” said McDermott co-chair Jeffrey E. Stone. “A true champion of diversity and innovator on issues of gender equality, Andie was recognized for her many sustained accomplishments, including mentoring younger women lawyers, establishing McDermott’s Women’s Leadership Series and Women’s Coaching Program, and leading self-evaluation ‘dos and don’ts’ classes for McDermott’s associates.”

“Andie’s great dedication and passion for helping others is an inspiration to all of us,” said McDermott co-chair Peter J. Sacripanti. “Her many achievements in the area of diversity set a sterling example for all legal professionals to follow.”

Ms. Kramer has a multi-disciplinary legal practice focusing on the world of derivative financial products – their taxation, management, trading, regulation and documentation – as well as energy and commodity trading, contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and implementation of the Dodd-Frank legislative changes to the over-the-counter derivatives markets. She is a member of McDermott’s U.S. & International Tax Practice Group and head of the Firm’s Financial Products, Trading and Derivatives Group, and is a member of its Global Renewable Energy, Emissions and New Products Group and its International Dispute Avoidance and Resolution Group. Ms. Kramer previously served on the Firm’s Management Committee and Compensation Committee.

Among her many leadership roles at the Firm, Ms. Kramer was the founding Chair of the Gender Diversity Committee, which develops policies and initiatives to ensure the value of a diverse firm; to formalize the Firm’s commitment to acceptance of gender differences; and to hire, promote and retain the most talented lawyers regardless of gender. She is a member of the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and chairs the Gender Diversity Subcommittee.

Ms. Kramer has a distinguished record of community outreach as well. Among these, she co-founded and chairs the Board of the Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Alliance to bring professional women together to mentor and support leadership opportunities for professional women. Ms. Kramer is also founding board member and chair emerita of the board of The Women’s Treatment Center (TWTC), a Chicago-based residential and outpatient treatment facility for alcohol and substance abuse. She is the past Chair of the Board of the Chicago Foundation for Women, one of the largest women’s funds in the world.
