McDermott Ranked among Top 20 US Law Firm Brands

Overview

NEW YORK (February 1, 2016) – McDermott Will & Emery has been ranked among the top 20 law firm brands in the United States by Acritas, a leading provider of legal market research. With an 11-point increase over its 2015 score, the Firm is also one of the biggest gainers on the list of law firms with the highest levels of brand equity across a number of dimensions, including top-of-mind awareness, favorability, consideration for top-level litigation, consideration for major M&A, and firms most used overall.

McDermott tied with Mayer Brown for the number 19 spot on this year’s rankings.

The Acritas U.S. Law Firm Brand Index is an independent brand strength audit of U.S. firms generated through market research interviews with a random sample of General Counsels and Heads of legal in the world’s largest organizations. The findings are based on data compiled from Sharplegal 2015, a comprehensive study of the global legal market with 2,144 in-house counsel who have senior responsibility for buying legal services. Some 600 interviews were conducted by telephone with senior counsel in the US between January and December 2015. The Index also takes into account the views of a further 183 non-US-based senior counsel who were asked which firms they used for their US-based legal needs.

“This ranking is particularly meaningful to us because it reflects the direct input of our clients and hundreds of senior counsel across the United States,” said Jeffrey E. Stone, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery LLP. “It says that our unique value proposition is well understood and highly valued by this elite group of exceptional lawyers.”

“These results tell us that our sharp focus on consistently anticipating and meeting the needs of our clients is being noticed,” added McDermott co-chair Peter J. Sacripanti. “Our ranking is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our outstanding lawyers – be they in our health, litigation, private client, tax, private equity, M&A, or other practice areas.”

According to Acritas, the Index is not a reflection of technical competence alone – it reflects which firms are upper-most in clients’ minds, which they are most attracted to and to which they are most likely to give their work. How the Index changes over time is a reflection of which firms are doing a better job of making and maintaining a meaningful relevant impression with clients through experience, relationship development and aligning strategy with clients’ goals and needs.
