NEW YORK (May 31, 2016) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP has been recognized as a leading firm in 50 areas in the 2016 edition of Chambers USA. The recognition includes practice rankings in 14 national and 36 state categories. The Firm also preserved its three national Band 1 practice rankings in the categories of Healthcare, Wealth Management, and Food & Beverage (Alcohol).
McDermott received a Band 1 national ranking in the Healthcare category for the seventh consecutive year, and remains the sole firm in the United States to hold this top tier honor. McDermott’s Health practice received 16 “Band 1” lawyer rankings – seven nationally and nine across individual states. Chambers recognized McDermott’s leadership in the Health sector, and noted the firm as a “standout healthcare powerhouse leading the way in complex, multijurisdictional transactions for high-profile clients.” Chambers went on to say that McDermott’s “large and impressively versatile team offers well-honed expertise in all areas of healthcare law, including data privacy matters and government investigations.”
Chambers honored the Firm’s Private Client practice for a tenth consecutive year with a national Band 1 ranking in the Wealth Management category and five Band 1 lawyer rankings. As one of only two firms to receive a Band 1 recognition in this practice area, Chambers referred to McDermott’s top tier Wealth Management practice as a “powerhouse…known for its unmatched strength in depth in the private wealth space.”
McDermott’s Food & Beverage (Alcohol) practice also secured a Band 1 national ranking, a distinction the practice has received since the category’s inception ten years ago. McDermott’s Food & Beverage (Alcohol) practice remains one of only two firms to receive a Band 1 ranking. Chambers referred to McDermott’s distinction in the Food & Beverage (Alcohol) category by describing the team of practitioners as “talented…with prowess in an array of sophisticated alcohol law matters at both federal and state level.”
In addition to the Band 1 national rankings, McDermott also stood out on the state level by increasing its Band 1 state practice area rankings to nine in 2016. McDermott’s state-level increase is credited to its Technology/Outsourcing practice in Texas as the sole firm to receive this Band 1 state ranking.
Also of note among the state results is McDermott’s status as the only firm to secure a Band 1 Labor & Employment ranking in Illinois. Chambers noted that McDermott’s Employee Benefits practice is “admired for its breadth of expertise actors a huge range of employee benefit and executive compensation issues.”
In terms of individual standings, McDermott had 141 lawyer recommendations across multiple practice areas. Among the individuals, McDermott had 12 new lawyer recommendations in various practice groups, state and nationwide. The Firm also had five lawyers that improved their Band rankings and eight lawyers who received the directory’s highest honors, including Star Individual, Eminent Practitioner, and Senior Statesman.
