McDermott Tax Lawyers Recognized by Law360

Overview

McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that two lawyers in the Firm’s Tax Practice Group have been recognized by Law360. Practice Group Leader Jane Wells May was named among Influential Women in Tax Law and partner Caroline Ngo was named “Rising Star” for her outstanding work in tax law.

Jane Wells May is the global head of the Firm’s Tax Practice and she focuses her practice on state and local tax matters. She represents businesses in connection with tax controversies at the audit, administrative and judicial levels around the United States. Jane has successfully litigated state and local tax matters raising a variety of statutory and constitutional issues. She also advises business clients on tax planning matters.

Jane is co-founder of Tax in the City: A Woman’s Tax Roundtable®, a forum for women tax professionals to connect and discuss critical tax issues in a collegial and confidential setting through roundtable study group events held bi-annually in Chicago, Seattle, New York and Dallas. She also serves as a mentor for younger lawyers at McDermott and within her clients’ organizations.

Caroline H. Ngo is co-leader of McDermott’s International Tax Affinity Group. She advises publicly traded companies on global tax planning, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, application of bilateral income tax treaties, and other international tax matters. Since the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA), a substantial portion of Caroline’s practice has been advising clients on the new international tax provisions. Caroline is nationally recognized for her deep knowledge and is a frequent speaker on international tax matters, including the new international tax law.

Caroline recently served as lead counsel in a major litigation in the U.S. Tax Court, and her team secured a complete victory for the client.
In addition to these recognitions, McDermott was named “Tax Practice Group of the Year”, earlier this year, by Law360 for its impactful involvement in 2018’s biggest deals, highest-profile litigation wins and all aspects of tax reform.
