Frankfurt, 10 November 2020 – McDermott Will & Emery advised VR Equitypartner GmbH and its portfolio company Bookwire Holding GmbH on the financing of the acquisition of the software technology company readbox publishing GmbH. Acquiring readbox is part of Bookwire and VR Equitypartner GmbH’s buy-and-build strategy . The financial terms of the transaction are undisclosed.
Readbox, an owner-managed medium-sized company, has been providing services in the field of conception, production, sales and marketing of digital products, in e-books in particular, for publishing houses for over 11 years. Since 2016 the company has also specialized in solutions for scientific publishing across all media channels and in supporting companies in dealing with text-based information.
Bookwire GmbH, founded in Frankfurt in 2009 as a service provider for publisher distribution of eBooks and digital content, is one of the leading international businesses in digital publishing technology. They operate in Germany, the UK, Spain, Brazil and Mexico, working with more than 1,700 publishers in the fields of eBooks, audiobooks and Print-on-Demand.
VR Equitypartner GmbH is one of the leading equity financers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The company supports medium-sized family businesses with growth and expansion financing, company succession and shareholder changes. VR Equitypartner’s portfolio currently comprises around 60 engagements with an investment volume of €400 million.
