BOSTON (July 12, 2017) — Intellectual property litigator, Sarah Chapin Columbia, has been selected as an “Intellectual Property Trailblazer” by The National Law Journal.
Ms. Columbia is the global head of McDermott’s Intellectual Property Practice, and, in addition to leading the group, she has led 12 patent infringement and invalidity trials (seven jury trials, five bench trials) over the last nine years. In fact, in 2015 Ms. Columbia was recognized as a “Litigation Trailblazer” for her trial skills and ability to explain and communicate highly-technical intellectual property subject matters to juries and judges.
Ms. Columbia prides herself on collaborating across practice groups and across offices to ensure that McDermott is presenting its most powerful front when litigating intellectual property matters. This year she partnered with McDermott white collar lawyer, Russell Hayman, to achieve great results for BlackBerry. Ms. Columbia also worked with Silicon Valley partner, Bill Gaede, to win a high stakes jury trial and obtain an injunction for Amgen.
In this year’s third annual “Intellectual Property Trailblazers” supplement, Ms. Columbia was one of only forty-nine legal innovators profiled for “continuing to make their mark” in the field of intellectual property. This is the third consecutive time in three such contests that a McDermott partner has been recognized as an “Intellectual Property Trailblazer.” McDermott’s previous winners include Bernard (“Bernie”) Knight in 2016 and Mark Itri in 2014.
