London – McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that partner Simon Gibb was named to eprivateclient’s list of “ Top 35 Under 35” for 2018. A rising star in the private client community, Simon was named to the annual list designed to identify, recognize and promote young professionals for demonstrating excellence and effecting creative solutions for high net worth clients.
Simon focuses his practice on tax advice and trust and estate planning for UK and non-UK resident and domiciled individuals, including on the protection and devolution of trust assets. While he advises on all aspects of personal taxation and structuring, his practice has an emphasis on the structuring of family businesses through trusts and foundations. Simon is regularly involved in both non-contentious as well as tax investigation work, with clients with interests in the UK, US, EU, the Middle East and North Africa.
He also advises individuals, family offices and trustees of offshore settlements on trust law matters and UK tax matters.
As a thought leader, Simon often writes on issues topical to the private client sphere, explaining the complexities of the constantly changing regulatory landscape and their impact on high net worth clients. He has authored numerous articles published in mainstream and specialist media including City A.M, eprivateclient, STEP and Spear’s. He is also regularly listed as a ‘rising star’ in prominent industry rankings such as eprivateclient “35 under 35” in 2016 (while still an associate), Legal Week’s Private Client Global Elite and Citywealth’s Leaders List.
Simon’s individual recognition comes on the heels of the firm’s Private Client practice being deemed a “complete powerhouse” in this year’s Chambers High Net Worth Guide. Within the guide, McDermott’s London office received praise as an “internationally focused team” with “exceptional global reach.” The London team was noted for its strength in private wealth controversies with a source describing that they “can hold their own in big disputes…[and] are really good strategists.”
