CHICAGO (August 2, 2017) – International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Intellectual Property partner, Michael P. Chu, has been recognized by the Filipino American Lawyers Association of Chicago (FALA Chicago) with the 2017 Trailblazer Award.

The Trailblazer Award is presented each year to a “Filipino American attorney whose demonstrated vision, leadership, and tenacity has helped him make his name in the legal industry, thereby paving the way for others to travel.”

Mr. Chu, co-chair of McDermott’s Racial & Ethnic Diversity Committee, currently holds the position of board chair for Asian Americans Advancing Justice, as well as board chair for the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms. Previously, he served as president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) and president of the NAPABA Law Foundation.

Mr. Chu focuses his practice on all aspects of patent law relating to mechanical, digital electronics and electro-mechanical arts, including litigation, opinions and prosecution. He handles patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright matters, including trials hearings, post-grant proceedings (including IPRs and PGRs) and mediation. His experience also includes complex patent cases, design patent cases, International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations and a strong appellate practice before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Michael also has extensive experience working with clients on litigation, licensing, regulation and import/export issues in Asia (including China, Japan, Korea and the Philippines) and in Europe.

FALA Chicago presented Mr. Chu with the Trailblazer Award at their 5th Annual Summer Soiree on the evening of Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
