Overview
March 25, 2015 – McDermott partner Michael W. Weaver has been named a “Rising Star” by Diversity & The Bar, the flagship semi-monthly magazine from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA). Mr. Weaver is among 15 other lawyers nationwide to make this year’s list, which honors lawyers who show outstanding achievement in their profession and are poised to become leaders in their firms and in legal industry.
A trial lawyer, Mr. Weaver focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, trust and family business controversies and product liability defense. He has appeared and represented clients in both federal and state courts across the country as well as before various arbitration tribunals.
Among his many responsibilities, Mr. Weaver is Partner-in-Charge for LGBT Diversity & Inclusion, where he promotes and develops supportive LGBT policies and programs. Under his leadership, McDermott has continued to earn a perfect score on the HRC Corporate Equality Index, which it has maintained since 2005. He organizes McDermott’s unique LGBT Workplace Awareness Program, promoting LGBT understanding through film and discussion and also serves as co-chair of the Chicago Pro Bono Committee.
As an associate, Mr. Weaver developed a legal clinic focused on legal issues facing LGBT youth and organized McDermott’s involvement in another legal clinic for LGBT individuals with the Center on Halsted—the largest LGBTQ community center in the Midwest. Mr. Weaver is also the Chicago Hiring Partner and coordinates the recruitment of McDermott’s summer associates and helps to manage McDermott’s 1L Diversity Fellowship Program which seeks to hire diverse first-year law students in McDermott’s summer program.
