New HHS Civil Rights Director Expected to Stay the Course on Privacy

Vanessa Burrows said she was encouraged that Roger Severino, the new director of the HHS Office of Civil Rights, will take an interest in OCR’s efforts on HIPAA healthcare privacy audits. However, Ms. Burrows noted, it’s still too early in Severino’s tenure to know how he’ll view existing cases or how he’ll collaborate with other federal agencies that handle health privacy and information technology matters.
